How to Survive as a Realtor in 2024. — Part Six

You can find part one here, part two here, part three here, part four here, and part five here. Also, remember to grab your notebook.

So far, we have talked about creating some rules to align your mindset with achieving great things and performing at your best, we talked about how you can achieve a dream lifestyle by creating content that attracts your dream client, we covered the how-to of my content creation method and how it is rooted in “document over create,” we talked about the different types of content you can create and the different platforms you can build upon. We talked about establishing your why, finding your platform, and learning what your non-negotiables will be; we touched on content planning and defining the who, and then, yesterday, we wrapped up the who section and dove deep into content strategy.

Today, we are talking about goals.

We all should have a set of personal goals and a set of professional goals, but what you really need to focus on is making sure your goals in each category align with one another.

This will lend to work-life balance.

Personal goals should energize and fulfill you, while professional goals should challenge and motivate your career growth. When these two are balanced:

  1. Your personal life provides rest, rejuvenation, and perspective to excel professionally.

  2. Your professional achievements give you the resources and confidence to pursue your passions.

“Loving what you do” and “never working a day in your life” directly tie into having aligned personal and professional goals. When your career aligns with your passions, interests, and values, it doesn’t really feel like “work” in the draining, unfulfilling, daunting sense.

So, what are your goals?

Professional Goals

When setting professional goals, it’s essential to make them specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Additionally, regularly reviewing and adjusting your goals as needed will help you stay on track and adapt to changing market conditions or personal circumstances.

  1. Sales targets: Set specific and measurable targets for the number of properties you aim to sell within a given timeframe (e.g., monthly, quarterly, or annually). This goal can be based on your previous performance, market conditions, and desired income level.

  2. Financial goals: Establish targets for your desired income level, savings goals, or investment plans. This will help you align your sales and business activities with your long-term financial objectives.

  3. Lead generation and marketing efforts: Establish goals for generating new leads and expanding your client base. How much content do you want to make weekly or monthly?

  4. Professional development: Identify areas for personal growth and skill development, such as obtaining additional certifications, attending industry seminars or workshops, or mastering new marketing techniques or technologies.

  5. Market knowledge: Set goals to deepen your understanding of local market trends, pricing strategies, and neighborhood dynamics. This could involve regularly analyzing market data, networking with industry experts, or attending local real estate events.

  6. Work-life balance: Define goals related to maintaining a healthy work-life balance, such as setting boundaries for working hours, scheduling personal time, or delegating tasks to prevent overwhelm or burnout.

Personal Goals

These are more important than your professional goals. If you aren’t filling your cup personally, you can never deliver professionally. Here are some potential goals to consider.

Health and Fitness:

  • Exercise X times per week to maintain energy and stamina

  • Eat a balanced, nutritious diet to support an active lifestyle

  • Get 7–8 hours of quality sleep each night to feel well-rested

  • Practice mindfulness/meditation X times per week for stress reduction

Relationships and Family:

  • Schedule regular date nights/quality time with spouse/partner

  • Have weekly family activities or outings

  • Make time for close friendships and social connections

  • Be present and engaged when spending time with loved ones

Personal Growth:

  • Read X books per month for self-development or continuing education

  • Practice daily gratitude and a positive mindset

  • Set aside time for personal reflection and goal review

Financial:

  • Contribute regularly to savings/investment accounts

  • Build passive income streams outside of career earnings

  • Plan and save for major purchases like homes, cars, etc.

Recreation and Travel:

  • Take X vacation days per year to explore new destinations

  • Make a list of bucket-list experiences to work towards

  • Spend time outdoors connecting with nature regularly

Community Involvement:

  • Volunteer X hours per month with local organizations

  • Get involved with neighborhood boards/associations

  • Donate time, skills, or money to causes that are meaningful

  • Attend community events to build connections

The key is to define personal goals that create balance, reduce stress, facilitate personal growth and bring more joy into your life outside of work. Review your goals regularly, and don’t be afraid to adjust as your priorities shift.

Direction and Focus

Goals provide a clear sense of direction and focus. Without them, it’s easy to become distracted and make little progress towards your dream lifestyle. Defined goals act as a roadmap, keeping you on the right path.

Motivation

Having goals creates motivation and drives you to take consistent action. Pursuing an endpoint provides energy and momentum. Knowing what you’re working towards makes the effort feel worthwhile.

Prioritization

Goals allow you to prioritize what’s most important amidst all your time and resource demands. They provide a filter for deciding what activities deserve your attention.

Achievement

Ultimately, goals facilitate achievement and accomplishment. Reaching defined goals provides a profound sense of satisfaction, confidence, and growth. Each finished goal leads to the next goal, which leads to fulfillment.

Personal and professional goals regarding happiness and work-life balance are two sides of the same coin. Your career goals provide the financial ability and sense of accomplishment to pursue individual dreams and growth. In contrast, personal goals give the balance, fulfillment, and rejuvenation to sustain your professional passion.

So again I ask, what are your goals?

See you tomorrow, when I share with you the big picture roadmap. Xo.
