Embarrassingly Starstruck

I am still in shock, first, by how much I learned this evening during the reception I just attended, and second, after staying 40 minutes after it ended, I went to call the elevator, and as the doors opened, there stood one of my mentors, in the flesh.

I don’t think I have ever been starstruck before, and ironically, he was in the reception, and I kept my distance. I didn’t want to say hello, just to say hello. I don’t want to be the fangirl. I want to add value to the conversations I decide to have.

So I kept my distance.

But when the elevator opened, he and some of his colleagues stood there. I think my jaw hit the floor. Without thinking, I said, “This is the coolest thing that has ever happened to me.”

Don’t worry; it gets worse. I then asked, “Can I give you a hug?” I got my hug, and they continued their conversation.

When the elevator doors opened on the 24th floor, we all awkwardly stood around before I realized what was happening. Then I said something along the lines of, “I think I should/need to get out.” It was my floor.

I legitimately have never been more embarrassed in my whole life. I didn’t even say thank you or have a good night.

Ugh, I want to hide now.

But tomorrow will go on, and I will be present.

I hope to get a row in the first seat and cannot wait to add to what I have already learned.

Tomorrow is day one.

I cannot wait to share my notes with you.

With love,

Jo
