I hired someone to do something I didn’t think I could do. — An Instagram story.
Hi sweet friend,
A few years ago, I was experiencing massive success in my real estate business, but I didn’t know I was successful. I went from being in survival mode—extremely busy, doing something I had never done before, and drowning in clients—to finding myself in a toxic environment in search of answers.
I didn’t realize the environment was toxic. I have talked about this before, but it changed my behavior. I made a lot of embarrassing mistakes. It temporarily broke me.
But that isn’t the point of this story.
The point is that I was successful at doing my thing: attracting dream clients through YouTube, and I was surrounded by lots of other successful people proclaiming that the way to success was “xyz.”
I wanted to be successful.
I didn’t know making $500k a year, in most eyes, is “successful.”
I came out of this learning you get to define “success,” but that isn't the topic today.
One of those people I was surrounded by had found their success through Instagram. Well, a lot of people were telling their how. Looking back, they all had a different method, but I thought, “I figured out YouTube; I need to figure out Instagram next.” It felt like a natural progression.
I knew exactly what I wanted it to look like.
I hired a team to help me bring my dream to life. And it was a flop. It took one year to gain traction and another year to see fruits from the labor.
Then, a few months ago, I discovered my local content creator would be quitting. She didn’t tell me, and she didn’t know I knew.
It was an awkward few weeks, but I was in denial. I ignored that elephant. I was petrified of not having someone as good as her by my side. We essentially went from 10k to 20k during her employment.
About two to three weeks ago, she told me she was moving in the coming weeks. I then decided to start paying attention to this platform with my own two eyes, and I threw myself into content creation.
Today was her last day.
During that time, I made 22 reels, and my first one went viral on April 15th with 216k views, followed by one the next day with 10.9k, and one I posted today has received 8,490 views.
In the last 14 days, three of my videos were in our top 5. In the last seven days, my videos were the top three.
I hired one person after another because I didn’t think I could create my vision.
But you know what? God wouldn’t have given me this vision and dream if I couldn’t create it.
I want you to know that you can do whatever it is that lays on your heart. That thing you have been yearning to attempt. You got this.
I am so excited to have control of my content again, even though I did hire a new little mini-me to help me stay in control of all the moving parts with a heavy dose of collaboration.
Thank you for being a part of my journey, Lindy, and welcome to the team, Dana.
With love,
Jo
