How to Survive as a Realtor in 2024. — Part One

Hi sweet friend,

If you are new here, “Hello, it is nice to meet you,” if you are returning, “Welcome, bestie, it is good to see you again.”

David Ogilvy told me you needed this blog post right now, so here I am, sitting in bed with two pillows propping me up, half-awake after fighting the eight-year-old to sleep in his room. His sisters share a room, and he doesn’t think it is fair.

Ironically, I remember being forced to share a room with my sister at different times and loathing it deeply.

But let’s get back to you.

Are you struggling right now? Are you a brand-new real estate agent? Are you tired of door-knocking, cold-calling, or growing your “sphere”? Are you on the brink of giving up? Are you tired of delivering Uber at odd hours of the night? Do you need to find a side hustle to supplement the lull in your real estate business?

I don’t know who you are, but I want you to know you are not alone. I am not judging you, and I am here for you.

First, let’s set some rules on how to solve your problems.

Do you have an empty notebook? If not, steal one out of your kids’ surplus of school supplies in the back of that one closet that needs to be cleaned out, or jump onto Amazon and find one that will be here when you wake up.

With that notebook in hand or a piece of scratch paper, until you get a blank notebook, I want you to write some rules for yourself.

  1. I do not have excuses. I do not know what excuses are. I can solve all problems that come my way.

  2. I will not give up. I will be persistent. I will show my grit.

  3. I will wake up early. I will get dressed for the day. I have a purpose, and I am here in this world to fulfill my purpose.

  4. I will put myself and my family first. I will make wise choices.

  5. I make wise first impressions. (First impressions are everything.)

  6. I will not waste my time. I am grateful for each day, hour, minute, and moment I have been given.

  7. I will not waste other’s time. I am prompt and always on time. (If I am not early, I am late.)

  8. I am grateful.

  9. I will work on self-growth every day.

  10. I am kind. I am patient. I am understanding. I am helpful. I am consistent. I am reliable.

  11. I have goals.

  12. I overcommunicate. I go above and beyond. I make others feel important.

  13. I am resourceful.

  14. I always answer my phone or return calls quickly, and I reply quickly to emails.

  15. I am a great listener.

  16. I say please, thank you, and you are welcome.

  17. I pay attention to all details, even the small ones.

  18. I am authentic. I am honest.

  19. I am positive.

  20. I am a creator.

Okey doke. I am going to break this up into parts. As I finish each one, I will return here to give you links to the other portions.

Link to part two.

Catch you tomorrow.

With love,

Jo
