Dear Juliette,

In just two days, you will be ten. That is double digits, my friend. The last ten years have gone by too fast in a superman of a blur, and I am sorry. I look at you, and I see myself. A little girl who has the whole world in front of her. A little girl that I want to protect in every way possible. A little girl that I hope always to be my best friend. A little girl that I am more thankful for than words can proclaim. You are my everything.

You are my middle child. One day, when you read this, it will sound funny out loud to you, too. I don’t think there has ever been a middle child as cool as you. That is precisely what you are, Juliette. You are cool. You have a large group of friends, and teachers love you. You play sports, ride horses, sing, act, and are full of life.

My goal in life is to give you the childhood I never had. I am sorry if I am giving you too much. I hope you never resent me for giving you so much. You are one of my purposes in life. You are precious, and I cannot wait to celebrate ten with you.

I wish I could touch a button and transfer all of the hard lessons I have learned in life while holding back all of the pain I have endured. Every single mistake I have made was worth it because I have you and your siblings.

I hope and pray you will cherish them. Maybe not today, but I pray someday you will. One day, when I am old and gray, and you are sitting by my bed, I pray your siblings will be there, too. You can accomplish anything with the love of others around you.

Juliette Blume, you are lucky.

Juliette Blume, I am lucky.

When you turn ten, I will be 37 years old.

Some of my favorite memories from the last ten years include getting you addicted to Gilmore Girls, watching you defend like a beast during your last few soccer games, watching you get a blue ribbon and break a pool record in a swim relay two seasons back, pushing you and Lincoln in a bright blue double stroller, taking photos of you every chance I get, taking pictures of you when you were cute, tiny, and chubby with Lincoln wrapped in your arms, walking you to school each morning, and picking you up, dropping you off at your first day of school, teaching you how to put on makeup for your first play, tucking you in, reading you stories, oh and introducing you to the Baby-Sitters Club Little Sister book series, taking you to parks, feeding you dinner out of a green ceramic cake tin on the floor of our first apartment, holding you for the first time, hearing you say I love you for the first time, walking you around the Kyle Cove walking loop a week after giving birth to you, and so much more.

I could go on.

I love you, Juliette.

You are a gift.

Thank you for being my twin and mini-me.

I promise to always be here for you, to be your role model, and to never let you down. I also promise to take you and your friend on a cruise very soon.

Happy almost birthday.

Love, Mommy.

With love,

Jo
