Use your words.
Some perfectly sound advice we have been hearing since toddlerhood.
Today, I woke up without any words but instead feelings. And not always are feelings worthy of pen and paper, or in this case, zeros and ones.
What do we write when we feel like we have nothing to say? I do not have writer's block at the moment. Instead, I am sitting with my thoughts.
Sitting and seeing are two of my favorite things to do. Sitting is easy. The ability to sit with your thoughts is one of good mental health. Seeing, on the other hand, requires self-awareness.
The first time I heard that term (self-awareness) was from Gary Vaynerchuk. I have been following him for about 8 years. He appeared on YouTube with WineLibrary TV back in 2006 and continued for 5 years, with over 1000 episodes produced. So, back in 2016, Gary was five years deep into another phase of his life.
In 2016, observing Gary, more lovingly referred to as GaryVee, you would have witnessed his growing influence as a social media and marketing guru. By then, he was already well-established as a charismatic entrepreneur and public speaker, frequently discussing entrepreneurship, social media, and digital marketing topics. He was active on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, where he shared motivational speeches, practical business advice, and personal insights. Additionally, 2016 saw the release of his book “#AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur’s Take on Leadership, Social Media, and Self-Awareness,” which compiled insights from his popular online video Q&A show. This period was marked by his promotion of the importance of social media platforms for business, his strong advocacy for hard work and hustle, and his emphasis on personal branding.
I learned a lot through his eyes.
Gary often communicated an intriguing perspective regarding his audience: he encouraged them to stop watching him eventually. His underlying goal was for viewers to utilize the insights and motivation gained from his content to take action on their ambitions. Gary emphasized the importance of applying learned knowledge rather than continuously consuming motivational content without making practical progress. He hoped that by imparting valuable business and life strategies, his audience would reach a point where they felt equipped and inspired to forge ahead independently, turning inspiration into tangible results.
I often watched #ASKGARYVEE that first year. I so desperately wanted to ask him for advice. But every time I mentally posed a question, I knew the answer, “Just do it.” I have talked about this before, but in a conversation with my mother on this topic, she said, “Just do it now.”
And that is what I did.
I started becoming more active on social media and finally showed my face. I bought a camcorder, recorded some videos that I uploaded to YouTube, got my website and blog running, hired an assistant, and even started a podcast. But I didn’t find success in my efforts. A friend had told me her secret, and I used that for a year or two to generate leads.
Looking back, I was doing all the wrong things, and I was scared and too impatient to do the right things.
Fast-forward four years, and I stumbled upon a new concept and strategy. Fast-forward three years, and I had made over $2M in commissions from said strategy. Fast-forward to today, and now I am teaching it all.
