Set Yourself Up for No Excuses
It is so easy to justify why we didn’t get something accomplished.
There is usually one reason why: there was something else more important.
But when you peel back the curtain, we see an “excuse” glaring back at us.
When I analyze things I haven’t accomplished, I see a few explanations: I haven’t prioritized them, or I wasn’t willing to put in the effort because they were more complicated than I anticipated, or I don’t have enough time to dedicate to figuring them out properly.
Sometimes, we have too much on our plates to accomplish what we think we want, but if we're going to achieve those things, we need to prioritize them.
It sounds like I'm running around in circles, but that's life. If you let it, it is a balancing act, a marathon, and a game.
There needs to be breathing room in your life.
It was a game changer for me when I realized I could accomplish anything I set my mind to with a singular focus.
I have attempted rearranging my schedule once to get everything I wanted done, but waking up at 3 AM isn’t socially acceptable, and my home wasn’t quiet enough on the weekends for me to fall asleep around 8pm.
So, right now, we are on round two, and this one comes with different priorities.
I am going to bed at a relatively “normal” time, 10 PM (as I type this, it is 10:09 PM, lol), and I am waking up at 5:50 AM. What I am prioritizing right now is 30–30–30, which means that from the moment I wake up, I only have 30 minutes to consume 30+ grams of protein and go for a 30-minute walk. The next thing I prioritize is packing my kids’ lunch and walking them to school. I also prioritize filming content for Jo & Co. (how I pay the bills), picking my kids up from school, pickleball on Monday night with my husband, taking my kids to sports, and eating an uber-healthy diet.
I still need help compressing everything I want to accomplish into my day because I wear too many hats.
But I am making that choice. I am trying to get a new business up and running, Jo & Coaching, and this is what entrepreneurs do. They burn the candle at both ends.
But I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I am setting myself up on a race track with no hurdles to accomplish my priorities.
I initially struggled to get a 30–30–30 morning in each day, so I adjusted my schedule so that I could accomplish 30–30–30 before anyone woke up and before the phone rang.
I so badly want to feel and look my healthiest, and I will no longer let excuses get in my way.
The timeblocking spreadsheet I shared in yesterday’s post was one of the most liberating exercises I have ever done. I love to be intentional, and taking it to that level felt powerful.
I recommend giving it a try if you are trying if you feel like you are trying to “accomplish the impossible.”
Okey doke; I am off to bed. But seriously, set yourself up for no excuses, and you will thank me later.
With love,
Jo
