Just breathe.

Do you ever feel like the walls of your home are closing in on you? The dishes are starting to grow eyes and give you an ugly look for ignoring them for too long. A pile of clean laundry has been sitting at the end of your bed for longer than you care to admit, and that blue gob of toothpaste next to your sink can now be used as sticky-tack for that 2010 boy band poster you saw in the garage the last time you took out the recycling. You have so many tasks to check off your list that you refuse to make a list.

Some call this life, while others call these responsibilities.

Then you have the past-due permission slip, the uniform that needs to be ordered, the PTO fundraiser cookies to bake, and you haven’t texted back your best friend in three days.

You have everything you have ever wanted, but you are stuck between “Is it enough?” and “Am I trying to do too much?”

Then, one morning, you wake up, jump out of bed faster than usual, take the dog for a walk, make a cup of coffee, and sit down to journal and read a chapter from your Bible. You get dressed and put on your makeup before anyone else wakes up at home.

If the picture painted above shows you now and your desires, what switch must be turned on to make it possible?

You must have a reason.

You must have a purpose.

Yesterday, I talked about asking the right questions. Here are seven questions to ask yourself to begin finding your definite purpose.

  1. What activities or tasks energize and fulfill you?

  2. What are the core values and principles that guide your life?

  3. How do you want to contribute to the world or make a positive impact?

  4. What unique talents, skills, or experiences do you possess?

  5. If you had limitless resources, how would you spend your time?

  6. What legacy do you want to leave behind for future generations?

  7. What are you genuinely passionate about beyond material possessions or status?

By reflecting on these questions, you can uncover the threads that weave together your purpose. It may not reveal itself overnight, but with patience and self-exploration, you can find the clarity and motivation to embrace your purpose wholeheartedly.

Remember, a life without purpose is like a ship without a compass drifting aimlessly. But when you anchor yourself in your definite purpose, even the most overwhelming days become manageable, and the path ahead becomes clear. Just breathe and trust that your purpose will guide you toward a life of fulfillment and meaning.
